FOODY FRIDAY - KANELA (CINNAMON) MONTH -FITHE ME GALA - NOODLE AND MILK PUDDING

So for today's foody Friday and cinnamon month I thought I would post you gg's all time favourite dessert and the first dessert I made for my fiance 'fithe me gala'- noodle and milk pudding, a twist on traditional rice pudding. This is a quick and easy Greek pudding which is especially nice for children and can be served hot or cold.

FITHE ME GALA RECIPE

Serves 5-6 people

You Will Need:
  • 50g/2oz butter
  • 2 cups/175g/6oz crushed vermicelli noodles
  • 1 stick of cinnamon
  • 5-6 cloves
  • 275ml/10fl oz water
  • 850ml/1 1/2 pints milk
  • 3/4 cup/125g/1/2 oz sugar

Method:
  • Melt your butter in a saucepan
  • Gently fry your noodles with the spices until golden brown
  • Stir in the water, milk and sugar
  • Bring to the boil and cover with a lid
  • Simmer gently for 3 minutes, keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't over flow
  • Switch off the heat and leave to stand for 5 minutes to thicken a little before serving
  • If you want to eat it cold leave your pudding to cool down completely then put in the refridgerator to chill and eat when desired
  • If you have some left over pudding, leave your pudding to cool down completely then put it in the refridgerator to chill and when you want to eat it heat it up in the microwave

We love eating this as a family and have our own name for it (renamed by gg) and tradition (also made up by gg). gg doesn't call it fithen me gala she calls it 'sketi gala'. Sketi is how she says spaghetti and gala is milk in Greek. Our tradition is before we start to eat we all have to look for bones and see who has the most. You may be a little confused, but in our house bones in Sketi gala are cloves (",) Hope you end up loving this dessert as much as we do and feel free to have as much fun as us looking for bones (",)
