MY FIRST POST YAY!!!

I thought I'd start my first post by going into detail about why I am blogging and also what I will be writing about.  It all started way back in 2002 when I met my fiance Marcus who is Ghanaian at work. We got on really well but remained as really good friends for 4 years until one night I hinted to him that I liked him and a few days later he gave me a cd WRITTEN and PRODUCED by him asking me out. Now how could I say no? I would have said yes without the song but all the time and effort put into making those 6 words 'will you go out with me' more special and meaningful I knew from that moment he was a keeper and he was the one for me (",)
Fast-forward 2 years and our beautiful daughter was born. A perfect Greek and Ghanaian mix/gg mix. The joy and happiness a child brings in your life is one that every parent boasts about, and rightly so. You create this perfect innocent little human who you love with all your heart in a way you've never loved before who can always put a smile on your face and make you so proud, all you want to do is protect them from any harm and teach them everything about yourself, about life and how to reach their full potential.
So when it came to our daughter's first birthday my fiance and I went out to buy her a birthday card but couldn't find one that related to her. They all had blond Caucasian children on the front, which wouldn't have been appropriate for little gg. I came up with an idea to write on the plaster cast we took of my belly when I was pregnant which was more special and meaningful, and we could write on it every year on her birthday so she could have all her birthday wishes from mummy and daddy all together (so there wont be 'mum where are my birthday cards when I was 2, or 10 or ....?' and I wont feel bad for misplacing them lol) Plus what else were we going to use the cast of my belly for other than store it in the cupboard?!
We didn't think about there being no cards that catered for our biracial daughter until her second birthday when I wanted to get her a card to open as well as writing on our new found family tradition belly cast. We were again left disappointed but this time I thought I would do something about it and use the photography and photoshop skills I learnt at uni doing Interior and Spatial Design and design my own greeting cards that catered for those that are of mixed race heritage and of other ethnicity's.
This is how I came up with gg cards. We named our company Greek Ghana cards or gg cards as this is what our daughter says she is, and what better name than the inspiration itself.
My fiance and I feel it is really important that our daughter knows everything about both her cultures and try our best to make it as fun and interesting as possible for her and me being me and wanting to document everything I thought blogging about our teachings, her reaction and the fun we have along the way will be a great kind of diary for our gg to look back on when she is older. Also realising that there are not alot of things around that celebrate being biracial, I thought this blog may help those that are biracial or have a biracial family to help in embracing who they are, and they too can help us on our Greek Ghana Mix adventure.  We will be looking at biracial hair and my journey with gg's hair, natural skincare, life as a multiracial family, biracial toys and products, and the different traditions, customs, food, music, language, clothing and heritage from both of our cultures and much more.
