- I washed, conditioned, de-tangled, moisturised and banded gg's hair the night before.
- The next evening I parted gg's hair from ear to ear and said to myself I was only going to work on the bottom section for the evening and finish the rest in the morning.
- I combed through gg's hair to make sure she had no knots then sprayed a little of my homemade itchy scalp spray and applied some of our homemade shea butter in her hair, and combed through with a wide toothed comb to distribute the product.
- I then parted a horizontal section about 1 cm thick and clipped the rest of her hair up.
- I parted a small section diagonally (when researching I found quite a few people said to part diagonally, as it makes the twist look less scalpy and sparse).
- I combed the diagonal section with my rat tail comb to make sure her hair hadn't knotted up.
- I split the section into 2 equal halves making sure that both pieces were the same length (if one piece is shorter than the other when you reach the end of piece you'll either end up borrowing hair from the longer section which will result in knots when you take down your twists, or you'll stop twisting and leave it loose which will result in your twist unravelling).
- I began twisting the 2 strands until I reached the ends and applied some more shea butter to her ends.
- I continued this process until I finished the whole section, which took just over 1 hour.
- gg slept in her satin cap and in the morning I continued with the top section until I was finished, 1 hour and 30 minutes.

CHECK OUT THE SHRINKAGE! I'M LOVING THE CURLINESS |
gg loves her twists because now she has long hair like mummy and she can swish her hair in every direction (",). She asked me "mummy what did you do to my hair?" I said "mini twists" and gg replied "what about mickey ones?" LOL My baby sure knows how to make me laugh, she got her sense of humour from her daddy only difference is gg is innocent with her answers where as her daddy's ones are corny ones lol.
When gg went for her nap I clipped her hair down to help the twists lay flat and put the rest in a ponytail to hold the ends together.
When gg woke up and she took her hat off, her twists were still lying flat and not all over the place, up, down and sideways like her twists normally end up when I just stuff them under her silk hat.
So now the bad bit. I started off with small small twists as you can see but when I finished them off the next day they weren't as small as the day before. I didn't realise until I uploaded my pics and I saw the first twists I did, I was so upset. But, I won't let it ruin my attempts because they have come out great on gg and her hair doesn't look gappy as bigger twists do, and her hair looks quite full, which we haven't experienced before. I don't know if this is because her hair is getting thicker or because of the mini twists but whatever it is I like it (",). I have decided when her top twists start getting frizzy I'll unravel them split them in half and make 2 twists out of 1, getting my small small mini twist look plus hopefully having them stay in gg's hair for longer without them looking too untidy. I'll keep you posted on the frizz and smaller twists as we do them.
I also did a length check the day before I did gg's twist so if I can leave them in for a few weeks I'll compare lengths and see if she's had any rapid growth.
Her twists look so pretty!!
ReplyDeleteDimitra, those mini twists look amazing! GG is too funny with that "mickey twists" comment :-D I really want to try these on Baby O's hair, but I'm afraid I don't have the patience that you do. Great work! <3
ReplyDeleteThanks Precious (",)
ReplyDeleteThanks you Nikki. In total they took round 2 1/2 hours split over 2 days which wasn't bad at all. I think because twists are so easy and you dont have to look down all the time and concentrate I found doing it quite theraputic. Now I have no patience at all I normally start off neat with a style and half way through Im styling like she's been wearing it for a few days lol Try it soon because the longer baby O's hair gets the longer it will take, plus she'll look soooo cute in them (",)
Haha, you're right about that--the longer Baby O's hair gets the longer it takes to style! This weekend, I'll do it--we have a holiday party on Saturday and she needs to rock something fierce!
ReplyDeleteAwesome job, Dimitra!
